16:44:25 <newbie> hi
16:44:31 *** newbie is now known as Heribert
16:45:05 <Heribert> is it possible to load and populate heightmaps via the console?
16:47:42 <NGC3982> Heribert: As far as i know, you cannot generate map properties withing a game, without making a new one or restarting the current.
16:48:00 <NGC3982> Heribert: If i understand "Load and populate" correctly.
16:49:08 <Heribert> I know that its possible to start ottd with the -g switch to load a heightmap, this means i have to restart (close the exe and open it again) the ottd server every time i want to change the map
16:49:17 *** Hyronymus [~Thunderbi@s53757898.adsl.wanadoo.nl] has quit [Quit: Hyronymus]
16:51:24 <Heribert> what i have in mind is something like the newgame command which generates a new game with a heightmap
16:57:29 <Yexo> I don't know of a command like that. If someone would provide a patch it could be quickly included
16:57:47 <frosch123> -g works for heightmaps?
16:57:58 <frosch123> then "load" might work as well on the console :p
16:58:58 <NGC3982> What happends when you rcon newgame -g?
16:59:15 <Yexo> NGC3982: rcon has nothing to do with this
16:59:20 <Yexo> and "newgame -g" definitely doesn't work
16:59:24 <NGC3982> Ah, i see.
16:59:31 <Yexo> commandline flags and the in-game console have nothing to do with eachother
17:00:02 <frosch123> i don't see "-g" or "load" working for heightmaps or even scenaios
17:00:07 <frosch123> looks like savegames only
17:00:25 <Yexo> I was quite sure -g worked for scenarios
17:00:32 <NGC3982> "load -g"?
17:00:38 <NGC3982> Or wait, never mind me.
17:00:43 <NGC3982> Im way out of context here.
17:00:56 <Heribert> you are right frosch sry
17:01:19 <Heribert> I misinterpreted this: You can also load savegames and scenarios with the -g "<filename>", command line option.
17:01:19 <Heribert> Example: openttd.exe -D -g "scenario/echo.scn".
17:01:22 <frosch123> ah -g works for absolute paths, so yeah, it works for scenarios
17:03:21 <Heribert> any you all agree its not possible to start a heightmap from within console?
17:03:33 <frosch123> i agree :)
17:03:38 <Eddi|zuHause> the "load" command is in serious need of a review anyway
17:03:45 <planetmaker> I agree
17:04:02 <frosch123> i think there are some fs tasks about it, maybe even stuff on the todo list
17:06:28 <Heribert> is there a realistic chance someone would add this possibility?
17:06:40 <frosch123> only if someone works on it

17:35:53 <jstepien> Zuu: hey, I've updated the patch you reviewed. how does it look now? https://secure.openttd.org/bugs/task/5192
17:42:44 <Zuu> Hello. Currently I'm way too tired to give you constructive feedback on the patch. However, if you read the tt-forums discussion and the ToDo-list on the wiki you may see that the patch doesn't answer the question/problem as expressed in the wiki. As far as I understood the ToDo-list it wants the date to be displayed in the list as an additional column there.
17:44:57 <Zuu> If the date is added there, its not so much of a point to have it also on the right panel. However, if you are able to argue to have it only in the panel and not in the list, then the patch adds the correct features.

17:50:58 <TheDude> hello there
17:51:30 <TheDude> Zuu, good you here, I am just looking on the GS, into GSTown.SetCargoGoal
17:51:56 <TheDude> I wonder, would be possible to alter the funciton to not set goal by TE, but by cargoID?
17:54:00 <Zuu> I haven't looked at that code, but I suppose its possible to create an additional function with a different name that does take a cargo ID instead of a cargo effect. It would need changes beyond the API level too of course, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be possible.
17:55:03 <Zuu> The reason why the new API needs a different name is that Squirrel doesn't support overloading.
17:55:59 <Zuu> (and that to do overloading the cargoID/TE would need to be two incompatible types in a typed language to be able to do type based overload with the same number of arguments)

19:40:22 * andythenorth wonders if virtualbox is the solution to ottd mac bugs :P
19:40:34 <andythenorth> just compile some virtual appliance
19:40:47 <andythenorth> like a minimal linux or such with openttd included
19:40:54 <andythenorth> for Windows too :P

19:46:04 <andythenorth> hmm
19:46:18 <andythenorth> for reasons that are baffling, virtualbox is trying to install itself inside the vm :P
19:46:28 <andythenorth> to run vms inside the vm :P
19:46:34 <andythenorth> this is....interesting
19:46:52 <andythenorth> it's funny how windows just....does stuff
19:47:16 <andythenorth> always it's busy doing things and you never really know what they are
19:47:24 <andythenorth> it pops up lots of little windows
19:47:32 <andythenorth> and I just click 'ok' because I have no idea what they are for
19:47:52 <NGC3982> I guess the "ok" part kind of explains Windows doing stuff.
19:47:54 <NGC3982> :P
