10:57:19 <TrueBrain> that moment you are about to remove VMs .... "this will permanently delete the data" ... it always scares me ... double checked I have a backup .. LETS GO
11:01:10 <LordAro> \o/
11:01:20 <TrueBrain> I DID IT!
11:01:29 <TrueBrain> okay ... I guess I will wipe the disks too now
11:01:34 <TrueBrain> just .. because I can?
11:01:49 <TrueBrain> OVH says they will do it too, but better safe than sorry?
11:02:17 <LordAro> that is standard practice
11:02:41 <TrueBrain> last intervention we had on that server was in 2017 .. damn, that shit is stable
11:02:52 <LordAro> can you imagine the lawsuits if they gave someone a server with (reused) disks that had someone else's data on them? :p
11:03:08 <TrueBrain> it happens .. just by sear accident
11:03:25 <TrueBrain> sear? Well, what-ever
11:03:31 <TrueBrain> sometimes I type things and my mind goes: THAT IS WRONG
11:03:53 <TrueBrain> sheer would be the better word
11:04:24 <TrueBrain> owh, this machine had hardware raid .. wow
11:04:36 <LordAro> for sure
11:04:47 <LordAro> hardware raid and it still didn't fail every 6 months?
11:04:50 <LordAro> i'm impressed
11:05:08 <TrueBrain> or because of that? :P

11:10:07 <TrueBrain> an URL I submitted to google 2 weeks ago, I now get an email about .. poeh
11:10:39 <Johnny_B> Hello guys, I'm totally new here
11:11:11 <TrueBrain> hello Johnny_B , I am not
11:11:37 <TrueBrain> So Google emails me an URL is not indexed properly, as it returned a 404, but when I look up the URL in their inspector, it tells me everything is fine .. this is confusing :P
11:13:39 <LordAro> TrueBrain: sounds like something very strange is going on for you
11:13:55 <TrueBrain> Google is just a mess atm ... and they know it, that is the worst part
11:14:17 <Johnny_B> I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm having problems with cpack on Mac OS. A cpack generated bundle just does not start, and gives Dyld error message saying Symbol not found: _iconv. This is the case for the patch pack I'm trying to use as well as for the latest release. Anyone has any clue? And if this is not the right place, the where is?
11:14:19 <TrueBrain> and I wish it was me, as that means I could fix it :)
11:15:20 <TrueBrain> this is the right place Johnny_B , at least, I would like to think so .. the question is if anyone is around that can help you out with this :D
11:15:46 <LordAro> no andy this morning
11:15:52 <LordAro> sounds like a missing dependency though
11:15:59 <Johnny_B> Okay well I'll just wait around and see what happens then
11:16:19 <TrueBrain> what is odd that the headers are clearly there, but the library isn't :P
11:16:35 <Johnny_B> Yes I've checked that but it all seems to be pointing in the right place
11:17:09 <TrueBrain> in the .. hmm .. what was that file called again .. in the build folder, there is a cmake file with all the options it detected etc
11:17:16 <TrueBrain> there is Iconv_INCLUDE_DIR and Iconv_LIBRARY_NAMES
11:17:24 <TrueBrain> might be interesting to see what they mention
11:17:44 <andythenorth> LordAro I am here, but I would be into wooooooo
11:17:46 <andythenorth> I don't know
11:17:48 <TrueBrain> but did Mac also uses iconv?
11:17:54 <Johnny_B> Yes I've checked there, and they point to the right spot.
11:17:59 <andythenorth> is this just 'Apple broke Xcode again?'
11:18:13 <Johnny_B> I believe iconv was needed on Mac OS
11:18:21 <andythenorth>
11:18:29 <andythenorth> I'm not saying that ^ is the cause
11:18:39 <andythenorth> but it has smacked lots of projects this year
11:18:39 <Johnny_B> Hmm maybe Andy but my installation is fairy recent
11:19:26 <TrueBrain>
11:19:27 <andythenorth> FWIW my build worked last time I checked, on 10.15.7
11:19:32 <TrueBrain> these kind of stackoverflows scare me :P
11:19:34 <andythenorth> using brew
11:19:59 <andythenorth> TrueBrain they often contain advice like 'just ln the libs'
11:20:03 <andythenorth> which then causes broken later
11:20:11 <TrueBrain> no, read this thread
11:20:13 <andythenorth> and the declaration "you're system is fucked"
11:20:19 <TrueBrain> basically, depending on your source of iconv, it can differ :P
11:20:39 <Johnny_B> Yes that's what I made out of that post
11:20:44 <andythenorth> "In an effort to get your compile to work, you might have added a new path to DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH or LD_LIBRARY_PATH (in ~/.bash_profile or similar) pointing to the GNU iconv libs in order to "help" the linker find things. This will come back to bite you at another time/day when something completely unrelated to what you're doing now is looking for the MacOSX iconv libs and instead pulls in the GNU libiconv libs"
11:20:58 <andythenorth> ha someone on SO has learned the hard way :)
11:21:04 <andythenorth> upvote that person
11:21:08 <Johnny_B> Haha yes I believe so
11:21:37 <andythenorth> let's rent a mac on the cloud and test it :P
11:21:46 <TrueBrain> well, the Mac binaries compile every night
11:21:49 <TrueBrain> so for sure it "works for us"
11:21:54 <TrueBrain> but that is not helping Johnny_B at all :)
11:21:54 <Johnny_B> The build runs fine by the way, it's the bundle that will not start
11:22:29 <TrueBrain> if I read that SO, I would guess, it picks a different iconv .. the trick now is, how to avoid that from happening
11:22:31 <andythenorth> Johnny_B which OS version, which Xcode?
11:22:59 <Johnny_B> OS version is 11, the all-new Big Sur
11:23:27 <LordAro> ah, then you probably want orudge :p
11:23:38 <LordAro> i think he said he got it to work...
11:23:47 <Johnny_B> Xcode is 12.2
11:25:55 <TrueBrain> Google tells me in a Live URL test that an URL is returning 404, but .. I do not see their request back in the logs :P
11:27:51 <Johnny_B> I think so LordAro
11:27:57 <TrueBrain> the traffic spike last night was about 5 hours btw, just as a fun fact :)
11:28:23 <andythenorth> I have 10.15.7 and Xcode 12.1, I'm testing if build works
11:31:15 <andythenorth> so hungry
11:31:19 * andythenorth snax
11:32:39 <TrueBrain> okay, so Google is throwing "soft 404", which means Google thinks it is a 404, but the server returns it as a 200 ... in this case:
11:32:45 <TrueBrain> so it is Google failing to understand a wiki :D
11:32:56 <TrueBrain> cute
11:34:59 <andythenorth> Johnny_B sorry, this doesn't help, but OpenTTD builds and runs fine for me
11:35:00 <andythenorth> I use
11:35:03 <andythenorth> rm -rf build; mkdir build; cd build; CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH="/Applications/" cmake ..; make
11:35:26 <andythenorth> usually with -j16 flag, but that's up to you
11:35:30 <TrueBrain> and now make the cpack ;)
11:35:39 <Johnny_B> Okay andythenorth that's fine so far, but now the cpack
11:35:52 <TrueBrain> and now andythenorth is going to ask: wtf is cpack :D
11:36:09 <andythenorth> wtf is cpack?
11:36:39 <andythenorth> "Cpack is a UK based specialist packaging machine systems manufacturer." :P
11:40:31 <TrueBrain> just run "cpack" :)
11:41:22 <TrueBrain> (in your build folder)
11:44:31 <andythenorth> CPack: - checksum file: bundles/openttd-20200902-master-g53a3d940b1-macosx.dmg.sha256 generated
11:44:37 <andythenorth> CPack: - package: bundles/openttd-20200902-master-g53a3d940b1-macosx.dmg generated.
11:44:47 <andythenorth> now I have some package I can run?
11:45:04 <andythenorth> ok
11:45:20 <TrueBrain> you now have a `dmg`, yes
11:45:28 <TrueBrain> which you can double-click to start OpenTTD, at least, it should
11:45:37 <andythenorth> starts, fails on baseset missing, but it opens
11:45:40 <TrueBrain> fully self-contained version of OpenTTD :)
11:46:01 <TrueBrain> Johnny_B: so it really seems to be a local issue, and I would guess it is because iconv is installed twice on your system: once the Mac variant, once the GNU
11:46:10 <TrueBrain> sadly, really hart to debug from here :(
11:46:24 <TrueBrain> okay, I am wiping a 2TB disk at 200MB/s
11:46:27 <Johnny_B> TrueBrain: that's the idea, but not working
11:46:27 <andythenorth> ssh to your mac :P

11:46:58 <TrueBrain> 3 hours
11:47:16 <Johnny_B> Boot as in throw out 😁
11:47:27 <TrueBrain> Johnny_B: btw, there is a pretty decent chance the CPack is not perfect; not sure if anyone really tested the bundle before
11:47:36 <TrueBrain> we welcome any contribution to making it better :D
11:48:16 <Johnny_B> andythenorth: do you use any package manager like homebrew or macports?
11:51:38 <andythenorth> brew
11:52:57 <Johnny_B> Okay, maybe I'll try that then
11:53:35 <Johnny_B> The good'ol make bundle always worked fine, but that will be over soon I'm afraid
12:01:09 <Johnny_B> Out of time for today, will try tomorrow. Thanks for the help all!

12:39:54 <JohnnyB> Never mind, fixed it 👍
12:43:53 <TrueBrain> _dp_: why do you want to have it as a flask module .. that sounds like a weird requirement?
12:44:08 <TrueBrain> but TrueWiki is build on aiohttp, so there would be a bit of friction there
12:44:22 <_dp_> TrueBrain, because I want to integrate it into existing website?
12:44:44 <TrueBrain> personally, I would advise against running it in the same instance of another website
12:44:51 <TrueBrain> and use a reverse proxy to split out the traffic
12:44:57 <TrueBrain> but that is simply because of the complexity of a wiki
12:45:28 <TrueBrain> (run the existing website in flask, run TrueWiki or gollum or what-ever, nginx in front, based on path, redirect to either of the two)
12:46:00 <TrueBrain> but to answer your question directly: we only know of gollum and TrueWiki which can store data on git, where TrueWiki has code to push/pull from GitHub
12:46:04 <TrueBrain> gollum is written in Ruby
12:46:45 <TrueBrain> you could hook TrueWiki in a flask app (webroutes are relative compatible), but TrueWiki uses asyncio to do background tasks .. not sure how that would go in a flask app honestly
12:48:05 <_dp_> if I run it separately I'll have to somehow reuse base templates to integrate it into the website markup
12:48:14 <_dp_> which I guess isn't completely impossible...
12:48:46 <TrueBrain> what-ever you choose, I am more than willing to help you out making TrueWiki more compatible with what-ever your goal is :)
12:49:31 <TrueBrain> and why did pyup not make a PR for eints .. hmm ... hopefully it comes today?
12:49:59 <_dp_> well... at this point I'm not rly sure I need a wiki tbh xD
12:50:04 <_dp_> more like cms or smth
12:50:29 <_dp_> basically have the same format for forum and content and mb wiki
12:50:45 <DorpsGek> [OpenTTD/bananas-api] TrueBrain updated pull request #77: Scheduled monthly dependency update for December
12:50:53 <_dp_> some kind of extended markdown
12:51:01 <_dp_> with galleries, tables and stuff
12:51:18 <TrueBrain> there is also wikitexthtml, which transforms wikitext to html
12:51:23 <TrueBrain> TrueWiki is a wrapper around that
12:51:36 <TrueBrain> there is also wikitextparser, which transforms wikitext to Python structures
12:51:42 <TrueBrain> wikitexthtml is a wrapper around that :P
12:51:52 <TrueBrain> but that requires more work implementing that, of course :)
12:52:32 <TrueBrain> otherwise, you have the GitHub Markdown, which has some extended features over normal Markdown
12:53:24 <DorpsGek> [OpenTTD/bananas-frontend-cli] TrueBrain updated pull request #15: Scheduled monthly dependency update for December

12:55:06 <TrueBrain> but wikitext is the most rich markup language I know .. too rich for my personal taste :D
12:59:29 <_dp_> guess I'll check wikitext then
12:59:46 <_dp_> kinda have my own version of extended markdown already though
13:00:28 <TrueBrain> and might help you with wikitext .. just know it is only a subset of wikitext, as wikitext is defined by the mediawiki implementation, which is full of bugs :P
13:00:46 <TrueBrain> well, you can create your own wiki with markdown, I guess
13:01:31 <TrueBrain> writing your own wiki is not -that- difficult honestly .. just a lot of work :)
13:01:34 <_dp_> yeah, I'm just trying to figure out if it's easier to use existing stuff or continue with my own
13:02:06 <TrueBrain> not sure how many wikis exist based on markdown with git support
13:02:11 <TrueBrain> gollum for one does that
13:02:15 <TrueBrain> (but again, ruby)
13:03:38 <_dp_> well, considering there are hardly anyone editing our wiki I can probably just drop the github/wiki part completely and just edit it myself xD
13:03:56 <TrueBrain> well, if that is the case, many more options exist
13:04:03 <TrueBrain> for one, you can use the GitHub interface as "editor" for your wiki
13:06:26 <_dp_> hm, I can drop wiki but not forum and considering it's mostly the same thing mb I shouldn't use github at all
13:06:39 <_dp_> github just gives easy versioning and lazy editor xD
13:07:12 <TrueBrain> yup :)
13:10:18 <_dp_> it's weird there don't seem to be any kind of general editing platforms
13:10:35 <_dp_> there are wikis, forums and cmses but good luck merging them into anything sane
13:11:01 <andythenorth> there are headless CMSes
13:11:05 <andythenorth> like contentful
13:11:15 <andythenorth> where you can build arbitrary content types
13:11:25 <andythenorth> I keep thinking I'll switch, but somehow never do
13:12:09 <_dp_> is that even free?
13:13:32 <andythenorth> nope
13:13:58 <andythenorth> there's a free tier, but I would be buying it for work purposes if I switched
13:14:47 <Timberwolf> I wonder if my previous+1 company ever got a headless CMS set up.
13:15:11 <Timberwolf> We were using some horrific jury-rigged system which involved screen-scraping our own Sitecore instance.
13:15:23 <andythenorth> I have a horrible solution using Wordpress headless to merge the content into our proper CMS
13:15:38 *** arikover` has quit IRC
13:15:49 <andythenorth> Wordpress is the evils in my experience, but for blog type content, what else is there eh?
13:15:55 <Timberwolf> Together with the usual fun of, "someone changed the text in a header, and now the entire mobile app has no content for any resources"
13:16:17 <andythenorth> it's reassuring how strung together the world is
13:17:03 <andythenorth> Lego is a great toy, but gives us completely the wrong model of the world
13:17:11 <Timberwolf> Back when I worked in insurance there was an awful lot of "the output for this regulator requirement is a fixed-width text file in ASCII encoding, here is the field specification"
13:17:18 <andythenorth> RL does not neatly fit together in a grid system, with perfect interlocking

13:27:17 <andythenorth> but it manifests as year 2000+ vehicles are just too cheap
13:27:51 <andythenorth> it's not easy to account for effects of speed and capacity increases :P
13:28:36 <Timberwolf> Trains does the same thing as Transport Fever, once something gets within a few years of its maximum age the running cost starts increasing.
13:29:39 <Timberwolf> For most vehicles, that means they are ~10-20% more expensive at the point the age "goes red" than they were when new (and continue to get more expensive)
13:29:50 <andythenorth> pikka does that
13:30:10 <Timberwolf> Horses have such a low base cost it's more like 10x (because the increase is linear, not based on the original cost)
13:30:30 * andythenorth stays away from the 'early game' thing :)
13:30:34 <Timberwolf> 1.2.0 makes it a bit less vicious for the early vehicles.
13:30:43 <andythenorth> I think it needs a 128x128 map, and a slight rescaling of...everything

13:31:21 <andythenorth> not my kind of fun :D
13:32:11 <Timberwolf> Sailing ships makes it a lot easier, but you end up with 4-5 ships subsidising a single bus route with about 300 stagecoaches on it.
13:32:50 <Timberwolf> Tyler's Improved Town thingy solves a bunch of that by reducing the population density of early towns so you still have a manageable amount of passengers.

14:00:24 <orudge> I got most of it working with MacPorts I think but an iconv issue did crop up I believe

14:01:41 <TrueBrain> can't we make 2 bundles, one named "M1", the other something else, I wonder
14:01:45 <orudge> I've got it working, but getting it working in a nice way that can be deployed to GitHub Actions or Azure might be fun
14:01:48 <orudge> Well, yes, that is an option
14:01:54 <orudge> In some ways that's an easier option
14:02:06 <TrueBrain> I would really prefer that, simply from an expense point of view
14:02:13 <TrueBrain> Mac builds are already big ... :P
14:02:16 <orudge> Just finding the time is the fun bit :)
14:02:49 <TrueBrain> as I wrote in the news post: we are not in our 20s anymore orudge ;)
14:03:36 <orudge> Quite :)
14:04:03 <TrueBrain> says the person without a job playing Satisfactory, but that is not the point :D
14:10:38 <LordAro> :D
14:10:54 <Timberwolf> Not long before my TTO and TTD CDs aren't even in their 20s.
14:31:52 <TrueBrain> LordAro: if you can approve those 6 PRs with version bumps, I would appreciate that :D

17:09:44 <JohnnyB> Lift off! andythenorth and TrueBrain, for good measure I completely removed Macports, and installed Homebrew. Build working fine, and also the bundle runs without any problem.
17:10:03 <andythenorth> happy days
17:10:09 <andythenorth> I abandoned macports a long time
17:10:21 <andythenorth> I don't love brew, and I don't 100% trust it, but it's more reliale
17:10:26 <andythenorth> reliable *
17:10:54 <JohnnyB> Now for the final test I need someone who has a Mac without a building environment to check if the bundle is standalone or if it still looks for local libraries.
17:11:02 <DorpsGek> [OpenTTD/OpenTTD] LordAro merged pull request #8344: Fix spelling

18:06:04 <TrueBrain> I do would like a simple script to just "release, patch+1"
18:06:16 <TrueBrain> that is a bit annoying atm, looking up the last number, entering the next ..
18:07:13 <TrueBrain> hmm .. what might work, is to have some smoketest, that validates staging is working, and tags a new version after
18:08:15 <LordAro> tricky bit is "some smoketest" :p
18:08:51 <TrueBrain> well, the only thing I do is visit the website, click around a bit, start the game, check content service and master server
18:09:00 <TrueBrain> the last part might be tricky, but the first part should be easy :P
